homemade bird feeder!

i've been dying to make homemade bird feeders with corbin since i saw them on pinterest a couple months ago. we are always watching the birds outside our living room window and thought it would be nice to give the birds an easy food source while it's so cold outside! i wanted to make them with pine cones since it's so rainy here but after realizing they only fall in the autumn months we switched to toilet paper rolls and i'll just hope they hold up in the rain!

it's so easy and obvious BUT you'll need: bird seed, toilet paper rolls, peanut butter, and yarn or twine.

string the yarn through the toilet paper roll and let your toddler have a go at spreading peanut butter on it.

after the toilet paper roll is covered in peanut butter, roll it around in the bird seeds.

corbin liked scooping up the seed and sprinkling it on top!

and if your toddler is used to playing tractors in trays of beans he will probably run to his room and find a bulldozer to push the seeds around with!

ta-daaaaa! the proud creator can then go hang the feeder in whatever tree branch his mommy can reach! ;)

(i ended up cutting two small holes for a lollipop stick to go through so the birds have something to stand on too!) it's only been a couple hours but so far no birds have been around to enjoy their treat... i hope to post a picture of one of them chowing down on it soon!!

one sun shiny day in who knows how long and we had to get out of the house and enjoy it! so off to starbucks we went for decaf coffee and a donut and then to the park to play way into our usual nap time! the slides at this park are the funnest things ever! EVER! corbin even flew down once on his stomach and i knew i was going to look up and see him flying out the bottom he went so fast! but luckily he slowed down in time. we will be back here tons as the weather gets nicer!

it's been SO long since i actually posted anything on here! i'm so far behind that i decided i have to just start where i'm at and try and fill things in as i go!

last weekend we had our regular dusting of yearly snow. like usual none of us in the area were prepared or equipped to handle a foot of snow. but we thought things would be back to normal after a few days and our mini snow days vacation would be over. so we took advantage of the snow and played outside everyday. making families of snowmen and having snowball fights and exploring our neighborhood covered in the fluffy white snow!

but this year mother nature had other plans and threw an ice storm into the mix. literally everything was covered in a thick layer of ice. thursday morning we lost power because of it and thought we'd venture over to ryan's grammys house until it came back on since the roads seemed okay at the time and it was ryan's moms birthday so we didn't want her to be stuck in a cold house all day!! things escalated pretty quickly while packing the car up knowing there was a slight possibility we would be staying the night there. trees and branches were falling at a rapid pace all around our house. you could stand outside and listen to branch after branch snap and fall to the ground! we were thankful to have somewhere else to be at the time! so we ventured out on the roads and found that trees were falling everywhere along our road out of the valley. there are four ways out and each way we went we were trapped by fallen trees across the road. when we came upon one of the trees we saw cars driving under the tree laying on a wire, through someone's yard around the tree, and then under the wire again to the other side of the road and knew that was our only hope of getting out before the roads got icy again so we did it too!

we ended up staying four days at grammy's house. she was the most generous host and corbin had the best time having family constantly there to play with but we were all so excited to hear our power was back on sunday morning!!

i'm so excited to announce our family of three is growing and we couldn't be happier! we met with my midwife for the first time monday and she was so positive and optimistic about minor issues i had with pregnancy the first time around and we're all hoping i have the birth center birth i want! so far i am just really tired all the time, which i would take over morning sickness any day! i'm excited to share baby bump pictures once i don't look like i ate one too many cheesburgers (even though i don't even eat cheeseburgers!). due date: august tenth!

corbin has recently taken up a liking to playing games on my iphone. at first i was hesitant to let him play it too much but let's all be honest, corbin is growing up in the age of technology! and most of the games he plays are educational so it's a win win! it's adorable to me to watch him navigate around my phone as if he's been playing on it for years. the other day he looked particularly cute playing lego duplo jams so i grabbed my camera and snapped away!

we celebrated christmas with my stepdad and aunt saturday! they live a couple hours away so it's always so great to see them and i love love LOVE the time corbin gets to spend with them! corbin scored gift cards, an awesome lightening mcqueen car, and lots of amazing books! he was stoked as you can see! then we had lunch and they went bed shopping with us for corbin. it was such a fun day and we can't wait to see them again!!

corbin had the funnest time at the santa parade last weekend! running in the streets with the big kids before the parade started, watching all the kids and cars and marching bands march down the street, and seeing santa end the parade atop an old fire engine!!

afterwards we walked to the grocery store for all the makings of ice cream cones then went home and watched the smurfs movie! i love christmas and all the festivities that go along with it!!

it's my absolute most favorite holiday tradition and now that i have corbin the joy of this tradition has just multiplied! watching his face be in complete awe the entire time. his smile when the snow tickled his face! this is his third year going and although i know he had a great time before this year he really got it and i honestly can't tell you anything that happened around me because i just stared at his face the whole time!

this year we hunted down the perfect christmas tree in the upstairs spare bedroom closet at great grammy's house! ;) corbin helped daddy assemble the tree and spread the branches out just right!

taking breaks to play with christmas trinkets and ooooh and aaaaawe over the ornaments!

while i found the perfect spot for our stockings to be hung!

my little helper and i strung the lights and cranberry garland and then we all decorated the tree with our favorite ornaments we've all collected over the years we've been together!

im not sure our tree has ever had a star on top!

i think i'll be on the hunt for one during after christmas sales this year!

it makes me smile every morning to turn the lights on and hear corbin sing, "oh christmas tree!".

corbin has been napping on a floor bed since he was about nine months old. we slowly got him comfortable sleeping in his room and then transitioned him to sleep there at night when he was about one and a half (i think). it's worked for us. we've kept his crib side-carred to our bed for nights when he wanted or needed to sleep with us. a couple weeks ago ryan was tucking corbin's sheets around his mattress on the floor and noticed mold along the wall where the mattress usually lays though. luckily i had just changed his sheets about a week before so i know it wasn't there for long. since we unfortunately don't have a money tree in our backyard we worked with what we had and moved corbin's crib to his room and left the side off. its funny he's never actually slept in that crib in it's normal way. there were a few days between us getting rid of the mattress (we were worried there might be mold IN it so we didn't want him sleeping on it anymore) and moving his crib to his room that he slept in our bed and i couldn't get enough of his sleepy face being there everytime i rolled over and opened my eyes and his king of mommy and daddy's bed naps!

thanksgiving this year was full of family, food, and lots to be thankful for! we hung out at home until after corbin's nap when my family stopped by WITH HOMEMADE PIES and then it was off to ryan's parents house for thanksgiving dinner AND PIE!

we started this week off with a sicky corbin waking up with a stuffy nose and a cough. it makes me so sad to see him sick. luckily he has been eating like normal so i've been filling his belly with (watered down) orange juice and chicken noodle soup and lots of fruits and veggies! he even snagged a bite of homemade dehydrated fruit leather before i rolled it up! he's pretty much been his normal self except before he falls asleep. i think he also is dealing with his back molars coming in too! hoping he feels better soon!!!!

last night was awesommmmmmme! we sang. we danced. we laughed. i cried. corbin's mind was BLOWN! and im already counting down the days until yo gabba gabba comes back next year!! we kicked the evening off with dinner at bucca di beppo then headed to the paramount theater for the show!!

corbin was a pro at standing in front of the sign and posed there every time we walked by, even if someone else was standing at it having their picture taken! and was so sweet to give his plex doll a place to sit!

friday was a big palindrome fail! i heard people talking about this whole 11/11/11 thing for days. woke up this morning and kept looking at my clock to make sure i didn't miss it. even texted ryan FOUR minutes before reminding him it was only FOUR minutes away. next time i looked it was 11:16. fail. anyways this is how we spent the MOMENTOUS DAY!!

wednesday is our typical library, donut/cookie date, park if it's not raining day and this week grammy got to tag along for the fun! she brought corbin his halloween treat that included two new pez dispensers to add to his collection! then we headed to the library where grammy chased him around and played while i checked out an arm load of books!

then we headed to our favorite small town bakery for lunch where corbin feasted on jelly packets and tiny half and halfs and washed it all down with a sprinkle cookie from the bakery!

after our bellies were full we had a little grocery shopping to do! my mom has always been a master of the win-a-stuffed-animal-with-a-claw game (is there a better name for it?!) and today was no exception! she won corbin three cute little stuffed animals in no time! and he even came home with TWO new pillow pets!

grammy, you should spend more wednesdays with us!

veteran's day parade!

our town had a big veteran's day celebration this weekend with the biggest veteran's day parade this side of the mississippi! i found that hard to believe until we watched for an hour, walked to a nearby burger joint to have lunch, walked back to the parade, watched it for another forty five minutes, and STILL left before it was over! it was extremely emotional watching men and women march down the road dressed in their uniforms holding flags and guns and not being able to begin to imagine what they have been through. watching grown men shake each other's hands while wiping tears from their eyes made my eyes well up with tears too. it makes me thankful to be able to look over at my family and know that we can all be together every day safe and sound. corbin caught on quick to wave hi and shout thank you to the passing veterans.

there's been something extra cute/special/sweet about my little guy these past few days. i can't quite put my finger on it but i love seeing his personality and silly little boyness come out more and more. his talking cracks me up on a daily basis. this day in particular was the day after halloween so his choice of one piece of candy came standard with breakfast. when i asked him if he wanted to go pick a piece out he said, "no waaaaaay" thinking i was asking him if we ate candy with breakfast i think. after he dumped out the bucket and chose he told me, "green sucker, mama! mmm good!". later we took a trip to the small library near our house. its perfect for corbin to get his uhm, "independent energies" out while still being safe while i search for books since there is rarely another person even there!

after checking out an arm load of books we headed to a nearby bakery for a donut date complete with hat hair and a napkin bib. while chowing down on his vanilla frosted donut i asked him if he liked eating donuts and he replied by shaking his head yes and saying, "tank you mama". DEAD! i cant handle this kids use of manners sometimes!!! within walking distance from the bakery is a small train museum that i've noticed a few times driving by but the sun was shining and we had nowhere to be so we walked hand in hand to check it out. they are closed on wednesdays but we still were able to climb on the train and check out the other train pieces they have set up outside. every time i asked corbin to look at mommy and smile for a picture he did!

on our way home we quickly decided to stop at one of our favorite parks to play. the sun was shining and i know we're in for many rainy days so soaking up any amount of sun is our current mission, however cold it may be! corbin quickly became friends with an adorable five year old boy named axle who had a super cool skateboard he only ever rode on his knees on. he would show off, corbin would laugh. he would crash (on purpose), corbin would laugh. he was showing corbin how to do things like run up the ramp easier by holding the rails and which ramps were funner to slide down. corbin is still talking about the "kid" at the park.

i'm so thankful i have every moment of his life to watch with my own eyes. to guide him as he comes into whatever it is he wants to be. to always and forever be his biggest fighter and cheerleader. i'm so proud of who he is today and forever.

halloween!!

halloween this year was loaded with fun! we started off the morning with pumpkin shaped toast and wormy jello (which corbin always requests but NEVER eats! silly kid.). after some lazy-in' around i realized i had four hours to get us both completely ready AND bake and decorate cupcakes for a halloween costume party we had that afternoon so we started on that. corbin was a great helper (he loves the "mixin" part) then played great by himself while i decorated them! nana even came over to keep him company for a while too!!

then i got corbin decked out in his halloween costume! is he the cutest albert einstein you've ever seen or what?! (i'm also excited to say it cost a grand total of ZERO DOLLARS!) and we were off to a halloween costume party hosted by miss poppy rainbow brite!

they are the cutest at sharing!!

corbin had SO MUCH FUN playing outside, eating yummy snacks, watching "it's the great pumpkin, charlie brown", and hanging out with his pals!

when it got dark we headed home to pick up dad and go trick or treating!!! corbin got the hang of it quick and was so polite! people were letting him take piece after piece of candy while they admired his adorableness! and is this not the funniest picture ever?! running to the next house for more candy!!

this is such an easy and fun project to do with your toddler! you could make a bunch of them in different sizes too! all you do is wrap one piece of the orange construction paper around the toilet paper roll, tape, and cut off the extra at the top! then i cut the other piece of orange paper into nine long strips. corbin helped me count them as they fell off the tip of the scissors and then handed me them one by one as i taped one side of the strip into the inside of the roll.

then you just loop the other side around and tape them into the bottom. cut a cute little green leaf and a brown stem and viola!

yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day! we knew we wanted to take nana to the pumpkin patch before halloween so we called and hoped she didn't have any plans! thirty minutes later she was snuggled in the backseat of our car with corbin and we were on our way! corbin loved showing her all around the patch! we rode the tractor hay ride, played with the bubbles, and explored every corner of the patch. corbin even met a sweet little friend named lucy in the corn box! and he's very much into older kids right now so he was copying them going down the slide backwards into the corn. i love seeing his silly personality come out more and more every day! after two hours and some hot chocolate (it was gorgeous but not warm!) we came home. i'm so happy corbin has his great grandma nana to go on adventures like this with!!

we all spent friday night at my niece's homecoming football game to watch her perform with her dance team at the half time show! the routine was SUPER CUTE and had snippets of a bunch of different stereotypical homecoming songs. the girls dressed up in fancy (but dance-able dresses) and the guys were dressed up too! i can not believe i didn't get a picture of jaden and her dance partner!! or even jaden! but it was freezing and the second the dance was over they all ran to get dressed in something warmer! anyways, corbin loves everything football and the fact that his aunt t, grammy, and cousin d were there made it even better!!

the whole game corbin was asking for a hotdog (ew!) but the concession lines were always so long so we took him out for a hot dog and ice cream at dairy queen after the game instead.

he was more than pleased.

saturday was our first of many trips to the pumpkin patch this season! (seriously we've already been three times) we found this little gem when corbin was just two months old near our house and instantly declared it ours and vowed to go every year until our kids think its not cool anymore (which is hopefully NEVER- i love pumpkin patches!) its interesting to see how much he's grown the past year looking back at our last trip and how many of the pictures are similar with just the people changing. corbin was still all about the tractors and pumpkins and corn box and hay ride and he even stood still long enough for me to snap a picture of him in front of the pumpkin growth chart! which is practically as important as a santa picture!

by the end of the perfect pumpkin patch day we came home with the perfect pumpkin!

corbin has been SUPER into halloween this year! it wasn't like that at first though. he thought jack-o-laterns were scary but after telling him a bazillion times they were super happy smiley pumpkins and that they were "spppoooooky" (instead of scary) with a big smile and laugh and he seems to have caught on! he's helped me make decorations for the house and peels his window clings on and off the window every day! he even has his very own little pumpkin we drew a happy face on and added googley eyes! but things wouldn't be complete without his own carved pumpkin!

after some boing-ing on his pumpkin, he helped me cut off the top (which he thought was hilarious). he somehow knew that we needed a "knife to get seeds out" too!

i thought he'd be more interested or take notice to how gooey the insides were. but then i realized he's a boy and gooey things are like another day in the life of corbin! haha

singing, "happy birthday" into the inside of his empty pumpkin!

and then waiting for me to carve it! (it was a no nap day and late in the afternoon)

when i was done i set it up in the bathroom (the darkest room in our house) and then lit it up with a candle. above was corbin's face when he first saw it!

he warmed up quickly to brobee pumpkin and even brought his stuffed brobee into the bathroom to meet pumpkin brobee. they were friends he said.

brobee pumpkin was A LOT harder than i thought he would be to carve! but i thought he turned out alright for my first attempt! i found the pumpkin carving stencils on nick jr's website. they have eighteen different ones to choose from like dora and bubble guppies characters!

corbin always gets so excited every time we drive past mimi's bus garage! (he calls her bee-dee) on our way home from playing at the mall one day last week we saw her getting out of her car on her break and swung in to say hi! little did corbin know he would finally get to drive her bus this time!!

he drove it for what seemed like forever, ran up and down the aisle, danced the monster mash on the seats to her halloween cd she plays for the kids that ride, but mostly just had a super fun time being bus driver corbin!

i was so happy to score a ticket to the seahawks game sunday! not really to watch the game but to watch my niece, jaden perform during the half time show! i pulled out all my favorite green and blue seahawks gear, triple checked for a full battery in my camera, and was on my way!

i had the best time having uninterrupted conversation with my sister and watching jaden dance her booty off for thousands of people! i had no idea the dance was a breast cancer and when they all formed the pink ribbon and breast cancer survivors started walking on the field i may have started crying! it was such a great experience to witness and for jaden to be a part of!

after my tears were dry we scarfed down some kidd valley garlic fries and enjoyed more of the game! and even stopped by u village for some delicious desserts while trying to find homecoming dresses for the girls afterwards!

this weeks craft was one i've seen floating around pinterest a lot and something i thought corbin would love to make! we hit up the dollar store for glitter and colorful poms. i dug thru our recycle bin for a water bottle that i filled half way up with water. and cut up some ribbon we had laying around. [other fun ideas are mini dice, beads, and anything else tiny enough to fit thru the top of the water bottle.]

i laid it all out on a tray while he was napping and after he woke up and had some snuggles i showed him the set up. he was stuffing the poms in the water bottle before i even had a chance to explain! it was a great opportunity to talk about colors and textures.

after all the pieces were stuffed inside corbin helped sprinkle some glitter in and twist the lid back on.

then he tipped it upside down and shook it and even tried taking a drink!

later i used hot glue to keep the lid closed tight. but i gotta be honest, he hasn't really played with it much since we made it. i'm on the lookout for some mini tractors or maybe fun shaped erasers to stuff inside the next one!

i'm slowly realizing the tiny little town without a stop light that's closest to our house in the middle of nowhere has things to offer! today we hit up the post office and then found a little park on our way home! we still had corbin's bike in the car from our playdate a few days? a week? ago and i thought the empty skate park would be the perfect place for him to ride it! he was a big fan of riding it up and down the smallest ramp and i nearly had a heart attack picturing him older skating and jumping around on the bigger ones!!

since we missed story time this morning (worth it to sleep in!!) we also hit up the tiny little library which i loved beings that corbin just runs around crazy when we go to bigger ones. i was able to keep my eye on him while i picked out lots and lots of halloween and tractor books!

when major construction started popping up next to one of corbin's friends houses we knew we had to get the two bulldozer loving boys together and have a playdate! our first thought was let them run free in the back of their truck bed but jacob and his mama had some practice riding bikes the couple blocks down the road and the day we came over the sun was shining so we went that route! corbin loved watching the diggers and bulldozers and waved to the cement mixers and dump trucks that slowly left the construction site! i have a feeling if we lived where jacob does we'd have to bike down there every day rain or shine!

today corbin and i tried out an easy and fun craft project i found on the internet recently!

all you need is plastic wrap, stickers, a window, and an excited toddler!

i just stretched a piece of the plastic wrap over the window, let corbin pick out which sticker he wanted, and let him stick away! at first of course he wanted to stick them on the actual window but i just explained how we only put stickers on the plastic wrap and he got it!

see? so. much. fun!!

i can't even put into words what last weekend meant to me. watching my very best friend who i've known almost my entire life walk down the aisle and marry her perfect match! to be able to walk down that same aisle with my arm wrapped around her little brother. for corbin to be able to spend time with people who i consider my family.

friday night rehearsal dinner.

miner's burger is yakima's best burger joint!! so obviously it was a must to stop!

and i have many childhood memories eating ice cream at the pepp'rmint stick!

hotel life. continental breakfast and jumping on the bed!

wedding day!! isn't her dress AMAZING!? i wish i took a picture of the back!

i did the worst job photographing all the adorable details of this wedding (that's the photographers job, riiiight?!) but they were everywhere and cute as could be!!

but i didn't want to leave until all the festivities were over so i stayed and watched the tear-jerking speeches and first dance and the bouquet and garter belt tosses and the cutting of the cake! marveling at the love and happiness that poured out of the two of them.

and look at that. naming a post after something corbin said again. the little mister is constantly talking lately. we can have full on conversations with him and its really the funnest thing ever! he is constantly making ryan and i smile with all the smart and silly and crazy words he comes up with. this evening i was crafting at the kitchen table and he came up to me with my camera in hand and said, "mama picture" so of course i had to take him up on the offer and snapped these pictures of him being a goofball in his room.

how in the world have i not posted these photos yet!? corbin's second birthday party was a total blast! we went with a toy story theme because of corbin's immense love for all things buzz and woody!

the decorations were mostly toys from around the house, a birthday banner from last year, and lots of brightly colored balloons, buntings, and streamers! i stole the year in pictures shaped into the number two from pinterest and filled goody bags with crayons, fruit snacks, and a frisbee!!

the birthday boy enjoyed doing all the usual birthday boy stuff like playing with his friends and cousins and swiping his finger through the cake frosting after we all sang, "happy birthday" and opening all the thoughtful gifts from his friends and family!

a big huge thanks to emily for snapping pictures of his special day while i ran around trying to make sure everything ran smoothly! both our pictures are sprinkled around in this blog post!

so there we were. a normal thursday afternoon. i decided to finally do some decorating in our living room and corbin was helping me hang up pictures. i was standing on his leap frog activity table and he was up on the rocker next to me when i heard a tiny toddler fall off the chair onto the ground. i jumped to the ground and scooped my crying little guy up only to notice his chin bleeding and upon further examination slip open!!

after a check up from mimi and nana and a phone call to a consulting nurse we decided to take him into urgent care for some possible stitches! ryan was on his way home but met us there. and thankfully corbin didn't even seem to be in much pain after the fall either.

but the hour or so we spent back in the actual room was pure torture for all of us. starting with an ever so rude doctor ryan had to kick to the curb while i held my terrified little guy in the corner, both of us crying. but thankfully ended with a glued up chin, a staff that actually cared to get to know corbin before they attacked him with gauze and glue, and a yummy grape popcicle! he was the quietest i've ever heard him on the car ride home but was quickly back to his old self once we were home!

and so, its just one of many trips we'll make mending our little boy up!

last night corbin cheered on the seahawks at his very first football game at the stadium! the hawks are known for having the loudest fans so we figured a pre-season game would be a good one to take him to since not as many fans show up and we don't want corb to lose his hearing by the time he's three! it was such a perfect night and corbin seriously behaved perfectly! and i'd like to think he had a fun time too!!

corbin the two year old woke up on his birthday morning to a bedroom full of balloons!! its a fun birthday tradition i'm so excited to start and continue for as long as he doesn't think he's too cool for it! this year it was a hit! nearly every second of our morning was spent in there playing with them!

only breaking to open some gifts from mom and dad and enjoy a special request birthday breakfast that included jello with cool whip and sprinkles!
(that he didn't even like! he just sees jello in a book we read.)

then the three of us headed to seattle for our first trip to the children's museum where corbin loved playing the bongo drums, pushing around a shopping cart, and driving little cars!

after a couple hours of fun at the museum we headed to chuck-e-cheese's for corbin's birthday dinner with my family! he always has the funnest time there and having his cousins to play with him made it even better!!

after our day of adventures we headed home and walked next door to mimi and papa's house for cupcakes, the happy birthday song, and more presents!

he fell asleep quick that night in the midst of talking about his extra special day! so it's really official. he's two. i have a two year old. i CAN NOT WAIT to see what this year has in store for my little guy! how much he will grow and learn and all the fun he will have being a kid and not having a care in the world!

great wolf lodge!

corbin and i were lucky enough to be invited to stay the night with a group of my niece's friends at the great wolf lodge (an indoor water park and hotel) to celebrate one of her friends birthdays! my sister and i were the "parents" and corbin was under two so he got in free!! i was so nervous and so excited to be able to take corbin! unless he's in the tub or washing his hands he HATES to get wet! luckily we'd been to my mom's pool a couple times this summer and it wasn't until i just took him in whining that he ended up having a good time. i was hoping that would be true for the water park too!

besides the amazing water park there were so many other fun things for kids to do!!

like a clock tower show and bedtime story in the main lobby that you can see worked wonders on corbin!

ice cream truck hugs!! we spent so much time in this arcade and i didn't have to spend a penny!!

every time we walked down the halls he would laugh at the wolves on the room number plaques! and yes we brought the frog boots. i swear its the only shoe i can easily get him to wear!

jaden and her friends stay at the great wolf lodge so often this cookie was waiting on the counter when we first went in our room with a note saying the fridge was stocked with milk!!

rumor has it the girls stayed up until five in the morning that night being loud and corbin and i slept right through it! we had such a fun time and can't wait to go back!!

i think i've mentioned before how one day when corbin was playing peek-a-boo he said, "where's juju?" instead of corbin and since then he hasn't stopped. "juju's tractor" "juju go outside" and so juju it is. he's had other nicknames but i really think this one is going to be the one that sticks!

a few days ago i was recording him and he noticed himself in the screen and yelled at his twin inside my phone! be sure to check out at the one minute mark his flirty eyes too. he kills me!

ps. we don't normally have balloons hanging from our ceiling! (although HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE!?) i was making balloon garland for corbin's birthday party later that day!
