i've been dying to make homemade bird feeders with corbin since i saw them on pinterest a couple months ago. we are always watching the birds outside our living room window and thought it would be nice to give the birds an easy food source while it's so cold outside! i wanted to make them with pine cones since it's so rainy here but after searching around outside and only finding teeny tiny ones we switched to toilet paper rolls and i'll just hope they hold up in the rain!
it's so easy and obvious BUT you'll need: bird seed, toilet paper rolls, peanut butter, and yarn or twine.
string the yarn through the toilet paper roll and let your toddler have a go at spreading peanut butter on it.
after the toilet paper roll is covered in peanut butter, roll it around in the bird seeds.
corbin liked scooping up the seed and sprinkling it on top!
and if your toddler is used to playing tractors in trays of beans he will probably run to his room and find a bulldozer to push the seeds around with!
ta-daaaaa! the proud creator can then go hang the feeder in whatever tree branch his mommy can reach! ;)
(i ended up cutting two small holes for a lollipop stick to go through so the birds have something to stand on too!) it's only been a couple hours but so far no birds have been around to enjoy their treat... i hope to post a picture of one of them chowing down on it soon!!
