turkey day!

one of my most favorite holidays! food and family, what can be better than that?

we started the day off way too late. i relied on corbin to wake me up early because he's always up around seven am but he slept in until nine thirty and we had to be at my sisters around eleven AND i still had a lot of cooking and getting ready to do! so i scrambled to nurse him and handed him over to ryan to play with while i cooked. remind me also to never offer to cook on thanksgiving ever. i offered to make sweet potato marshmallow casserole, trader joe's stuffing (that crap is THE BEST!), and quinoa pilaf w/almonds and cranberries. remember too that i had to be at my sisters in one and a half hours! in the end, we ended up being one hour late and everything turned out delicious! especially jaden's homemade pumpkin pie! being at my sisters with jaden, demarcus, and my mom was a lot of fun and it was nice having thanksgiving in their new, beautiful, lake-side home.

once the food was ate and the dishes were done at my sisters we headed to ryan's parents house for thanksgiving part two. luckily his sister was flying that day so we waited for her to get home to start eating, which let us be nice and hungry for another whole meal again! it was nice seeing everyone together because even though we all live on the same road its not often that EVERYONE is together in one place. there was lots of visiting and lots of laughter.

the next morning instead of getting up early to go black friday shopping, which is what i've done for the past few years, we decided we'd go get our christmas tree! so we drove down the road to a local, family-owned, you-cut tree farm. we got there around four in the afternoon and by the time we were done it was totally dark out! it took us a while to find the perfect tree and for ryan to saw it down. then after a visit from santa (who corbin totally loved and smiled at!) and some candy canes, we headed home. im so excited to bust out the christmas decorations, i already have the christmas music going and put the tree up today! yay for the holidays!

here's dad cutting down the tree!

nine days.

ryan's vacation starts today and he has nine whole days off with us! im so excited to have him home with us every day! woot! woot!

my little guy is three months old!

already!? really! three months! geesh!

alot has been going on with little corbin. he's growing so big, so fast. where do i even start? he is one happy little baby. always babbling on and smiling. i love the sound of his voice! he is constantly having conversations with uuhhh things like bare walls, mini blinds, blankets, and coat racks. he's a genious i tell ya! i also got my very first giggle out of him this month! my eyes instantly filled with tears. it was one of the sweetest sounds i've EVER heard!
he's also found his hands and constantly has them in his mouth. among anything else that gets within an inch of his face he opens his mouth wide. its funny when i wash his face he tries to eat the wash cloth! and he's also discovered his toys. he loves his playmat more now then ever. and tummy time too! we're working on getting him to roll over from his belly to his back. he's almost there!
we took our first trip to the mall a couple weeks ago too. he loves being in public and just stares at everything. he's always so good wrapped all snug in my lovey dud wrap. AND we had our first trip out to eat too! ryan and i would eat out many times a week before corbin was born so it was fun to get back out there! it was only to taco del mar but we're doing this baby-steps style!

corbin is completely out of his newborn clothes and is on to zero to three month and three to six month sizes. it was sad to get all the newborn clothes together and know he won't ever fit into them again! :( and he's wearing size 1-2 diapers. we've been so fortunate up to this point and haven't had to buy a single diaper because we're still going off of the ones from my shower but im strongly considering going with cloth ones once we're out of our diaper stock! we'll see.
we bought corbin a bumbo and he loves sitting. its the cutest. sometimes he looks like a drunkin' sailor the way his head wobbles around though!
and i definetely have another sports fan on my hands. corbin can lay with dad on a saturday and watch college football (go huskies!) for hours. its pretty sweet to see them together like that. corbin laying on his dad's chest dozing off and on.
all in all its been a pretty fun and special month and we're really looking forward to the holiday season!

the return of tummy time.

when corbin was first born he didnt mind tummy time too much. then one day he did mind and the second we put him down he would cry, cry, cry. well, with a little bit of tummy time every day anyways, he's now back on the tummy time band-wagon! i bribe him by turning on sprout and letting him watch to distract him! for some reason, one of the cutest faces he makes is when he is on his tummy holding his head up so im so excited to have that cute little face back.
this whole thing has also taught me a lesson that he is going to learn things at his own pace and that's OKAY because he'll get it eventually.
so here he is all little and liking tummy time.
and now here he is a little bigger and crying and waling around so much i cant even keep the picture in focus!

and here he is this morning! wtg tummy time baby!

giggle. giggle.

we've got laughter! and i caught it on camera! too bad he hasn't done it again since despite my 110% effort every single day to make him smile and all the dumb (but silly) faces i make at him! my eyes welled up with tears when i heard it! i swear he's the cutest baby EVER!

a day in the life of us.

i've been wanting to write one of these since corbin had just arrived but now that im writing this i realize it would just say i changed corbins diaper, i fed corbin, corbin went to sleep. and just repeat that over and over. so now that he's almost three months old he's a little more active and this should be a little funner to read. maybe i'll do one every three months or so to see all the changes in our daily life.

so, my morning starts at 4 am. corbin wakes up and i change his diaper and feed him for about twenty minutes. he usually goes right back to sleep and today is no exception. and i go back to sleep too!

8am. corbin wakes up again. same routine. change diaper. feed. then he doses off again and i head to the kitchen for some breakfast. on the menu today is two pieces of toast, a yogurt, a bowl of frosted mini wheats, and a big glass of water. that may seem like a lot but i know that some days i dont eat again til two o'clock so i gotta stock up!

9am. corbin wakes up from his little nap and i sit on the coach and rock him for a little while. i love that he's becoming more cuddly. when he starts wiggling around a little i read him a book. he loves listening to stories! when that's done we head into his room to play on his play mat and have a little tummy time. i multi-task and update his vaccine record book and make a doctors appt trying to remember not to talk baby talk while on the phone. haha

10am. i change corbins diaper and we call dad and tell him corbin accomplished five minutes straight of tummy time with no crying! wahoo! he's getting better at it! (normally he hates being on his tummy) and then i just play with him on the changing table until he gets bored of it. our changing table is right at his bedroom window and he loves looking outside and having me stick my tongue out so he can copy! when he's bored we head to the living room to play on my lap. he's all smiles and is talking like crazy so i grab the video camera and record him for dad to watch later.

10:25am. corbin is getting sleepy so i stand up and bounce him in my arms until he falls asleep then i lay down on the couch with him and watch the rest of the view.

10:45am. he's awake! we snuggle and i make funny faces at him to make him smile! :) then i put him in his swing while he chomps on his hands, coo's, and watches me do the dishes.

11:05am. another diaper change and time to eat! since im at the computer and he falls asleep while eating i just let him sleep and catch up on facebook and the bump and add lots of items to my favorites on while i watch ellen.

12:15pm. awake again, i go to the living room and turn on, your baby can read and set him in his swing to watch it. then i go to the kitchen to eat some cheese slices and prepare myself a yummy acorn squash.

12:45pm. great grandma nana calls and wants to know if i want anything from town. she suggest a milkshake from mcdonalds and i say yes! and add an apple pie too please! (hey, arent i supposed to be eating more calories because im breastfeeding!?!? i know they shouldnt be empty calories but today i trick my brain and give in. i eat healthy every other day!)

1:20pm. i decide its time to get out of the house so i wrap on my lovey dud wrap, stick corbin in, and we're off to the mailbox! when we get back its time for another diaper change. (geez, how many is that already!)

2pm. he eats again and falls asleep.

2:35pm. corbin wakes up and i change his diaper again.

2:40pm. DAD'S HOME! and can't get his hands on corbin soon enough. which gives me time to reheat that squash and actually sit down and eat it while corbin and dad play.

3pm. we get a visit from grandad todd who comes over to fix our weather stripping around the front door. corbin and i hang out in the computer room because he's got the front door open and its cold out there!

3:45pm. my sister calls and we talk for a little bit while dad changes corbins diaper and hands him over for another feeding. and so he can go eat his mom's homemade chili she sent over the night before. by now corbin hasn't had a solid sleep for a while so he feeds and sleeps off and on til about 5:15.

5:15pm. all three of us get on the living room floor and play and read some more books. a while later mimi stops by for about fifteen minutes and when she leaves ryan starts some laundry.

6:30pm. corbin is asleep and i have two hands free so ryan and i head to the bedroom to organize our closet.

7pm. corbin wakes up, i change his diaper, and feed him.

7:40pm. when he's done eating i put him in the bouncer with the hiccups and now its finally time for me to eat dinner! i throw some mini potatoes and morning star chicken nuggets (that are really veggie) in the oven and steam some lima beans. when they are done i sit on the floor next to him and eat.

8pm. dad duty begins and i get to wash my face and warm up that apple pie great grandma nana brought me earlier. (i dont want it to go to waste!) corbin loves playing with his dad and he had been coo-ing and smiling the whole time, which makes it hard for me to be in the other room because i dont want to miss any of those moments!

8:45pm. its time for the corbinator to go to bed. plus he's getting fussy so we change his diaper, put on his pj's and rock him to sleep. he'll sleep thru the night til about four or five in the morning and i fall asleep right with him!

what a long day! but i wouldnt have it any other way. not all days turn out like this. sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night to eat. some days he's a little more fussy. i just follow his lead. do what makes him happy. my life has so much more meaning now that he's here and im so extremely happy to be able to stay home and see all those little moments with my very own eyes!

two month check up.

so i know the corbinator is almost three months old but im just getting around to posting his two month appointment stats. geesh. i must first start off by telling you all how much i love love love our pediatrician. i've been looking for someone since before corbin was born and have never been satisfied. and after he was born we ended up at pediatrics northwest in federal way. we liked the doctor but the waiting room felt like the free clinic to me! lots of roudy or sick kids. people with masks on everywhere. we felt super uncomfortable there. never mind the fact that when they called your name you could tell we meant nothing to them. just the next baby in the long line of kids they would see that day. no one special. well since i am not working anymore we had to switch over to ryan's insurance and that meant finding a new pediatrician. (which we were looking for anyways!) so we ended up at the new group health building in bellevue with dr. rudnick. she's absolutely adorable and so so nice, has a four month old little boy of her own, and is okay with us putting corbin on an alternative vaccine schedule. i really wanted a woman doctor for him. someone who was nurturing and knew what it was to be a mom. i figured he can change to a male doctor once he's a little older and might feel uncomfortable bending over and coughing for a pretty female doc! so walking into the group health building for the first time was the best feeling. it was clean. new. empty. no screaming kids. no face masks.

so his stats are this:
his little noggin is 39.5 cm (23% percentile)
he weighs 12 lb 6.5 oz (48% percentile)
and he is 1' 11" long (41% percentile)

he was really good the whole time. even for his shots. like i mentioned before, we are using an alternative vaccine schedule. getting most of the reccomended vaccines, just spacing them out so he's not being injected up to five times in one visit. thats just too much for his little body to handle! so we got the dtap and rotovirus vaccines. he sucked down the rotovirus vaccine and took the dtap shot like a champ! he let out one big yelp when she stuck the needle in and then he was fine! he's such a tough little guy! we'll be back next month to just get the other two vaccines that are scheduled for him at two months.

im so proud to be corbin's mommy. he is the best baby! always smiling and babbling. he loves taking baths and going for walks outside! his newest trick is copying us sticking our tongue in and out. its so freakin' cute! he can sit thru a whole "your baby can read" dvd too! he coo's like crazy during it! and i keep waiting for the day i sit him down, turn the dvd on, and come back to him with his "arms up!" or touching his "nose". he is also becoming more snuggly. i love when he wakes up in the morning because i can usually get a good ten minutes of rocking and snuggling in.

all in all we have a happy, healthy baby. and he has happy, healthy parents!

i'll leave you with a pic from when we got home of corbin and his snoopy band-aid.

so aunt tammy bought a costume for corbin and brought it over the other day. we thought it was way too big when we held it up to him but it actually fit pretty good once we tried it on him. we thought he looked more like aunt jemima in that hat though! haha
